Golfers insurance is an annual personal-lines policy that covers a golfer's equipment and their liability while playing. It pays for golfing equipment (clubs, bag, trolley) lost, stolen or damaged, covers personal effects at the course and in the clubhouse, pays a benefit for a hole in one, and, most importantly for many players, covers your legal liability if your ball or your swing injures another person or damages property. It also carries personal accident and medical expenses cover for you. Kenyan insurers write it as a ladder of cover levels rather than one fixed sum, so the equipment limit, liability limit and personal accident limit all step up together as you move up the ladder. Home and contents policies rarely respond to clubs stolen from a car boot or a club locker, which is the gap this policy exists to close.
A set of clubs is one of the most valuable things most Kenyan golfers own outside their car and their home, and it spends its life in the least secure places available: a car boot, a club locker, a buggy, the back of a caddie. Household policies are written around the home, so they usually do not respond once the bag leaves it. Golfers insurance is the personal-lines policy written for exactly that exposure.
It is not only about the clubs. The liability section is the part experienced players buy it for: a sliced drive that hits another player, a caddie, a car in the club park or a clubhouse window is your legal problem, and injury claims run far past the value of any bag. The policy carries a third-party liability limit alongside the equipment limit, plus personal accident and medical expenses cover for you.
Vike places golfers cover with IRA-regulated underwriters who write it as a ladder of cover levels. The limits at each level are not identical between insurers, and the cheapest option at a given level is not automatically the widest cover, so we compare the actual limits side by side before recommending one.
Golfing equipment: clubs, bag, trolley and covers, against theft and accidental damage
Cover away from the course, including in transit and in a club locker
Personal effects at the course and in the clubhouse
Legal liability for injury to other players, caddies and members of the public
Legal liability for damage to third-party property, including vehicles and clubhouse glass
Personal accident cover for the insured golfer
Medical expenses following an accident on the course
Hole-in-one benefit toward the customary celebration
Annual cover, renewable, with no medical examination
Club members at Kenyan courses who leave clubs in a locker or a car boot
Golfers with a bag worth more than their household policy would ever pay for
Players who enter club competitions, society days and corporate tournaments
Anyone worried about the liability side rather than the equipment side
Corporates insuring clubs and liability for a sponsored golf day
Golfers travelling to tournaments with their own equipment

The lowest rung on the ladder. Suits a starter or second-hand set where the liability cover, not the equipment limit, is the reason for buying. Equipment and liability limits are the smallest on offer.
The mid rungs, and where most club members sit. Equipment limits move into the range of a genuine branded set, and liability limits step up with them.
The highest rungs, for a full premium set plus a trolley and accessories. Carries the largest equipment, personal effects and liability limits. Not every insurer writes the very top rung.
Not a separate product but a choice of rung: some insurers climb the personal accident and liability limits faster than the equipment limit. If a claim against you is what you actually fear, the right rung is not the one with the biggest bag limit.
Arranged for a sponsored tournament rather than an individual, covering the organiser's liability and, where required, the prize indemnity for a hole-in-one prize. Quoted case by case.
A full set plus bag and trolley is a five- or six-figure loss. A household contents policy usually pays nothing here, because the property was neither in the home nor covered by an all-risks extension. The golfers policy responds up to the equipment limit on the chosen rung, less the per-loss excess.
The other player needs treatment and loses income while recovering. That is a liability claim against you personally, and it can run well past the value of your clubs. The policy's third-party liability section responds up to the limit on your rung, which is why the limit matters more than the premium difference between rungs.
Third-party property damage, small enough to be tempting to settle privately and large enough to be annoying. The liability section covers it, and having a policy avoids the argument about who pays.
Custom says the round is on you. The hole-in-one benefit pays a set amount toward the celebration, subject to the usual proof requirements: it must be in an organised round with witnesses, and the club needs to confirm it.
Accidental damage to a single club is covered, subject to the excess and, on some policies, to the club having been listed. This is exactly where the equipment list matters: without one, an insurer caps what it will pay for any single unlisted item.
Named-item cover for a single high-value club or a rangefinder
Increased third-party liability limit
Increased personal accident sum insured
Worldwide or regional extension for tournament travel
Cover for a buggy or a powered trolley
Corporate hole-in-one prize indemnity for a sponsored event
